This blog comes to you from the lands of the Burramattagal people of the Dharug Nation in Sydney Australia, where I have had the privilege to live with my family for the last 13 years.
WHO AM I
- Lawyer by day, reader by night
- Podcast obsessed
- Wife, and mother to two hilarious kids (teen & pre-teen) and of course my baby cavoodle
- Trying to find the balance in a life of family, friends and full-time work
AS A READER
That's the thing about books. They let you travel without moving your feet.
~ Jhumpa Lahiri
As a reader, I’m less interested in reading the 'right' books and more in reading what catches my interest and seeing what lingers. The result is a growing collection that now spills across the federation bookcases around our fireplaces - rows of spines that mark different phases, moods, and moments in time. Each one is a small record of where I’ve been as a reader and they bring me joy to look at.
Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens.
~The Shadow of the Wind, Carlos Ruiz Zafon
AS A REVIEWER
I write entirely to find out what I am thinking....
~ Joan Didion
Rating system:
5 / 5 I couldn't put it down. This is a new favourite and books like these are why I love reading.
4 / 5 Engaging and I loved it. An incredible read I high recommend.
3 / 5 A reliable and enjoyable read.
2 / 5 A bit of a miss for me. It had it's moments but it wasn't for me.
1 / 5 Hard slog and not for me.
AS A BLOGGER
I started blogging in 2009 from my original blog Page Turners. Page Turners was a cherished spaced where I shared my love of books, reading, and writing from 2009 to 2015, when the demands of parenting and work became too high for me to continue. I think of Page Turners as my baby before I had babies. Now, after a hiatus through my children's younger years, I am back here on Aidanvale.
Aidanvale is the next chapter, where past reviews and reflections from Page Turners meet new thoughts and inspirations.
While I wasn’t sure I was ready to start blogging again, I knew I didn’t want to risk losing all my work, so in 2024, I made it a labour of love to transfer all of Page Turners posts into this new blog, Aidanvale, named after my home and representing a new phase for me. I don't know where this new chapter will lead me. Only time will tell.
